Getting started

The basic steps to setup network management with NINO are:

Detailed information:

Discover devices

Before we can start discovering the default SNMP community strings need to be set. For windows hosts using WMI the windows (Administrative account) must be configured in NINO and on the windows host.

ADMIN MENU SECURITY MENU SELECT CONFIG SET SNMP COMMUNITY STRINGS
SET USER (DOMAIN\USER) AND PASSWORD

There are three ways to discover devices:

The discovery process will use SNMP and WMI to detect what kind of devices are discovered. The monitoring capabilities will be detected and monitoring preset groups will be activated. Please folow instructions below to setup discovery.

TOOLS MENU SELECT ONE OF THE DISCOVERY OPTIONS FILL IN IP ADDRESSES OR FILENAME WAIT AND VIEW THE DISCOVERY REPORT VERIFY IN DEVICES BROWSER TO VIEW DEVICES

Network discovery:

The network discovery process reads the routing table of the default gateway to find other routers and networks. If any other routers are found it looks in the routing table of the new routers and the process starts again for the new networks. Next to routers it also scans IP ranges in the networks attached to the router. This process can take a very long time.

Scan IP range:

The IP range scan discovery process just sweeps from a start to end address and discovers all hosts that talk SNMP.

Discover devices using seed file:

The best way to discover is to use a seed file. NINO just discovers all devices listed in the file without any IP range sweeps.

By default the auto-preset discovery is turned on. So during the discovery process all monitoring presets applicable for a device will be switched on. This can be switched off in the ADMIN - CONFIG menu. The discovery process will use the next steps:
